compulsory subject in the examination for promotion

to that rank. (With the permission of the Inspector

General of Police, Hindustani may be substituted for

Chinese.)

XIII. Officers in charge of stations may be required

to perform in addition to their police duties, duties

for other Departments without extra remuneration.

XIV. Officers are provided with free quarters, fuel

and light, while in the Colony.

XV. The following are provided free: Beda and

bedding, mummer and winter uniform, helmets, great

coats, and boots or money ($24 per annum) in lieu of

boots.

XVI. Men engaged on the Detective Staff receive an

allowance of $12 per month in lieu of uniform.

XVII. An officer on joining is provided with table

linen, cutlery, glass, orockary ware, and cooking

utensils for the sum of $5.

XVIII.Special rules approved by the Governor in Council,

govern sick leave, medical attendance and hospital

charges, while in the Colony. No stoppages of any

kind are made from an officer's pay for absence from

duty on account of injury or sickness received or

incurred in the performance of duty.

An officer is provided with free medical

attendance in the Colony. If absent from duty in

Hospital through sickness from olimatio or ordinary

causes the following stoppages are made:-

Prom 2201 to £300

From £301 to 2400 Over £400
